For 2018, the competition will be held March 9-12, 2018 at Catholic University in Washington, DC, and will be judged over three days to determine scholarship winners in each of three age groups: Youth (up to 12 years old), junior (13-15 years old), and senior (16-18 years old) in addition to the grand prize and the special composer’s prize. Application to the competition is free and all performances are open to the public with free admission. The Competition is open to guitar players up to 18 years old who reside in the Washington, DC and Baltimore metro areas. Rules, set piece music and other information is available in the downloads section.
On March 9th is a “Meet the Judges Reception” for contestants and their parents – this is not open to the public. March 10 we will hear all of the contestants play the required set piece for their division and a piece of their choosing. Semifinalists will be announced at the end of each division’s performances. In the semifinal round on March 11 and in the finals on March 12, contestants will play programs of their choosing within the time limits set for their respective divisions. In each competition round contestants who do not advance are invited to meet with the judges in one-on-one, 5-minute “speed dates” to review their performances and get ideas for improving their playing.
